MEMORIES OF WORLD WAR II
BY
SAM FINDLEY
FORWARD
One of the truly great eras in the history of the United States of America was that of
WWII. Soon all those who lived during this time will be gone. Those who served in the
Armed Forces of our nation are dying at the rate of thousands per day and most all now
living are in their late 70s or 80s. As one who lived and served during this
era I have written this account of my memories to pass on to my grandchildren and anyone
who may be interested in reading it.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I owe many thanks to my dear cousin, Martha Smith for proof reading my draft and for
her encouragement and suggestions for improvement to the text. I especially thank her for
the copies of the letters she saved that were written to her by my brother, relatives, and
me during our service in the Armed Forces.
